Retainers need to be worn at night time for a lifetime. Teeth have a tendency to relapse and move back somewhat towards where they used to be and wearing your retainers are a crucial step in keeping them straight.
At Petrous Orthodontics, the first set of retainers are always included with treatment, but just like reading glasses or tires on a car, retainers eventually will need to be replaced.
On average, retainers last about 2 years. If you take real good care of them (and you are not a grinder), you can gain a few more miles (years) out of them. But let’s be honest, things happen! And retainers can be expensive to replace if you break or lose them.

FAQ About The LifeTime Retainer Program
Instead of paying a la carte pricing for replacement retainers, with our LifeTime Retainer program, you pay a $895 one-time fee (which can be financed). Then, you only pay $25 per retainer at any time for life. Our LifeTime Retainer program keeps you from paying full price for future retainer replacements and is your best value.
We tell our patients that you should wear your retainer for however long you want to keep your teeth straight. This is huge! The good news though, is that over time, they can typically be worn less and less.
There’s no need to feel overwhelmed though! Wearing your retainer will quickly become a part of your oral hygiene routine, kinda like brushing.
Absolutely! Anybody can sign up for our LTR program at any time.
If you had your orthodontic treatment somewhere else, we typically recommend that you go back to that office to get the help you need. If you moved far from the original office or don’t feel comfortable going back, we’d be happy to take a look and give you an honest assessment. Just call or text our office.
Teeth shifting (relapse) can occur if you don’t follow your doctor’s recommendations with retainer wear. Retainers, unfortunately, are meant to retain teeth as-is to protect them from moving. Retainers, by and large, don’t actively move teeth. If your teeth have moved due to a lapse in retainer wear, a new retainer is only going to keep your teeth as they are. If you’d like to fix the relapse, we’d recommend you get evaluated by Dr. Petrous to see what treatment options could help. Don’t be hard on yourself. It happens and we got you!
